In my 35 years in the AEC industry, I’ve learned that people often mistake "Invention" (the new tool) for "Innovation" (the result).

To me, Innovation simply means improving life. When leading enterprise transformation, the process doesn't start with a software rollout. It starts with the people. I look for the "muscle atrophy" in daily workflows and the "friction" that keeps teams from doing their best work.

By keeping people at the center using Knowledge Management (KM) and Operational Excellence (OpEx) as the engine, scaling becomes the natural result of a healthy system.

The $10M in recurring value delivered for global firms wasn't the goal, it was the evidence. The real goal was moving from "Isolated Mechanical Systems" to an "Interconnected Biological Network" where every person has the tools, the confidence, and the clarity to thrive.

The "Gopher" Origins: Learning the Hard Way

My professional journey didn't start in an air-conditioned office; it started on the loud, gritty jobsites of New York. As the son of a mechanical contractor, I became the official "gopher" at age 15 whenever I wasn't in school. My father didn't let me touch the complex systems yet; my job was to fetch materials and tools for the crew.

By 1990, while still in college, I was promoted to a pipefitter foreman, orchestrating field operations for plumbing, heating, and fire protection . These years on the front lines cultivated the foundational field expertise and safety protocols that served as the genesis for my later enterprise-wide digital transformations.

The 1993 Pivot: The Digital "Guinea Pig"

In 1993, while attending the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) for architecture, I became a "guinea pig" in the school's first-ever digital studio. We were handed AutoCAD, 3D Studio, and Photoshop with zero instructions. Basically a pile-on to the existing design studio demands.

In hindsight, it's exactly what I needed to prepare for the AEC industry's digital transformation.

I had to learn the "hard way" by bridging the gap between old-school knowledge workers and the digital future. For 35 years, from pipefitter to VDC pioneer to C-Suite executive for a top 5 ENR GC, I have made the mistakes so you don’t have to.

The Philosophy: Converting Tacit Wisdom into Explicit Value

My dad taught me at an early age, that "When we help others succeed, we succeed"

The core of my work is centered on a critical industry need: The Knowledge Engine. True scale in AEC requires converting the "tacit" knowledge of our experts into "explicit" business value.

Tacit Knowledge is the wisdom gained through battle scars in the trenches, the things you "just know" after years on a construction site.
